Our Community Service Projects

Serving the community – it’s been an integral, defining part of LMR since its founding in 1980.

In 1994, this premise was taken to a whole new level. Beginning that year, each LMR class was divided into teams to work on community service projects.

Since then, dozens of nonprofits have been able to tap into and harness the expertise of LMR members to assist with a variety of projects – from establishing marketing plans to raising an organization’s visibility to developing a comprehensive business plan that can help with day-to-day operations. Nonprofit organizations and government agencies throughout the Richmond community submit applications each year.

“I think it’s fair to say that without the help of LMR, some of these organizations wouldn’t be where they are today,” said Tom Mountcastle, former chair of the board of directors and member of the Class of 1996.

Among the organizations LMR members have helped since 2000 are: the Central Virginia Food Bank; Boys & Girls Clubs of Richmond; The Daily Planet; The Massey Cancer Center; Greater Richmond Stop Child Abuse Now; Carver Promise; and Virginia Blood Services.
