Tyren Frazier, LMR ’15, former Executive Director of Higher Achievement, used the connections he made and the knowledge he gained during his Leadership Quest experience to effect positive change in the lives of area youth.

“Leadership Quest gave me a snapshot of the community. I learned that there are areas of concentrated poverty that exist outside of the city limits. This sparked an interest in seeing how we can help challenged areas in Henrico County. After making connections and starting conversations with leadership in Henrico County Public Schools, we launched an Achievement Center at Wilder Middle School in June 2016. “

Bill Bales, LMR ’15, felt inspired to coach a promising college student, Marcello, through our Coaches RVA program. Marcello shared his experience with us:

“When I first met Mr. Bales we hit it off. When I told him about the goals I have in life he made an effort to try and help me accomplish them. One of which was my pursuit to acquire an internship this summer in the Richmond area in my field of study. He referred my name to his company. As a result, I applied to the IT Development Program and received an official offer to be a part of their program. I was thrilled for this opportunity and immediately accepted the offer. It has been quite a pleasure to get to know Mr. Bales on a professional and personal level and I see this relationship lasting even after the conclusion of this program.”

Rev. Dr. Paige Lanier Chargois, LMR ’98, found meaning through board service that honored the life of her father thanks to LMR’s Member to Member Board Connector.

“A significant aspect of grieving for a deceased loved one is contemplating, “What do I do now?” As my Dad’s caregiver I relinquished virtually every involvement but church where he served as a deacon. After nearly 8 years of near seclusion, I wondered “How do I get back on track?” That’s when I heard of the LMR Member to Member Board Connector. I met the Alzheimer’s Association Executive Director and shortly thereafter I was interviewed and accepted on their Board. Not needing to be alone or lonely, a new sense of belonging is the harvest I have reaped from the seeds of opportunity presented in the Member to Member Board Connector. I will be forever grateful to LMR!”
